Reading Tutoring Program

Love, Love, Love Ministries provides free, one-on-one reading help to kindergarten students that are currently not meeting grade level standards. Enrolled students meet with their tutors twice a week during the summer before their first grade year. These 45-55 minute sessions focus on phonological awareness, letter-sound relationships, decoding, and writing. All materials are provided. After scheduling kindergarten students, if there are additional tutoring spots available, we open registration to first grade students that are not meeting grade level standards in reading.

Why we focus on kindergarten & first grade students:

Research shows that, if a child is a poor reader at the end of first grade, the child is 88% likely to remain a poor reader at the end of the fourth grade. This is one of the reasons we focus on helping kindergarten and first grade students learn the foundational reading skills needed to become fluent readers.

How to receive free reading help:

Parent letters will be offered to all Kent, Ohio elementary schools. If your kindergarten or first grade student is reading below grade level this spring, ask their Kent City School or St. Patrick School instructor if your child would be a good candidate for Love, Love, Love Ministries’ tutoring program.
